Remarks :
Identification confirmed by Bill Rudman and Hsini Lin
Synonymous : (according Worms)
- Nembrotha nigerrima bergh, 1877
Bibliographic data :
This relatively large species, sometimes growing more than 120 mm long, seems to range in colour.
- Essentially black but with green pustules, or green longitudinal ridges.
-
In some specimens the rhinophores and gills have red-orange markings but in others, these are green.
- In Western Australia the black background region can have pinkinsh orange spots or elongate marks
In contrast with the black and green of the mantle, the gills and rhinophores are partially red-orange.
- Stalk and posterior side of rhinophores are black, tip and anterior side are red-orange. The border of the rhinophore pockets are red- orange
-
The branched gills are black except rachis which are red-orange
Nembrotha kubaryana seems to prefer this ascidian Sigillina

"Bottle ascidian"
A similarly coloured species, Nembrotha cristata lacks the orange border to the foot.
Material examined by Nathalie Yonow ( see reference/publications).
Two specimens collected from Grand Baie (Mauritius), 28 February 1990, size : 58 and 60 mm.
