Species characteristics :

The body is not smooth, but covered with low wide ridges that form a web-like pattern. At the highest point of the ridges are large conical papillae. The papillae and shorter tubercles are concentrated on the edges of the notum

The notum has a dark gray, brown, red or yellow mantle color

The rhinophores, gill, papillae, and tubercles are a tan color

Remarks :

Material examined by Chan & Gosliner, 2007 : Holotype: CASIZ 71882, preserved specimen, North West side near sea stack, Nosy Tanikely, Madagascar, 14 April 1989, T. M. Gosliner, 4 mm long (dissected).
   Synonymous : (according Worms)

Bibliographic data :

The rhinophores are lamellate and have 15 lamellae each. The edge of the rhinophore sheath is scalloped. There are no tubercles on the rhinophore sheath
    The branchial gill is completely retractile and surrounded by an even sheath. The six branches are tripinnate and do not extend beyond the edge of the notum.
    Some specimens have a deep red with tan-colored papillae, rhinophores and branchial pinnae. White dots on the edges of mantle occurred in some specimens.
    Etymology : The word tahala means ‘‘ridge'' in Malagasy, and was chosen due to the ridges that form a web like pattern on the dorsum.
