Remarks :
Identification confirmed by Bill Rudman and Nathalie Yonow
Synonymous : (according Worms)
- Oscaniella albiguttata Bergh, 1905
Bibliographic data :
There is an intense white elongate patch at the posterior end of the sole of the foot. This is a gland which develops in most species of Pleurobranchus as they reach maturity.
The foot is spotted with orange or brown
It looks quite like P. peroni but the larger dark brown tubercles with a white line down one side are a unique feature found only in P. albiguttatus
It feeds on the compound ascidian at night, individuals are generally found hiding during the day
It lays a white spirally-arranged egg mass with one edge atached to the substrate and the other very wavy
