Bibliographic data :

Eyes large, visible at anterior end of head.
    There is an internal shell with a broad aperture and fine spiral striae that are not punctate.
    It lays cream to pale orange, spherical egg masses that appear to be attached by an adhesive surface and hatch in 3-4 days in the laboratory.
    Philine rubrata is a moderately common species found in rocky habitats as well as in Halimeda kanaloana beds. It occurs in moderately exposed to exposed areas at depths of 1-18 m
    Etymology : The epithet rubrata refers to the uniformly reddish color of the body

Two other species of Philine have been recorded as having redddish pigment Philine rubra Bergh, 1905 from Indonesia and Philine caledonica Risbec, 1951
            - Philine rubra have only anatomicals differences with P. rubrata, but P. rubra was descripted from Indonesia
            - Philine caledonica body is covered with minute papillae, while it is entirely smooth in P. rubrata and P. rubrata has elongate caudal lobes, forming a posterior skirt around the mantle cavity, while in P. caledonica the caudal lobe are short and simple.
