According Bruce Cauvin from Reunion Island National Marine Reserve" Following a remark by one of our interns (Marc), we found several individuals of Glaucus atlanticus stranded on the sea front. We were able to identify about fifteen on only 100 m of coastline"

They exhibit a textbook example of colour countershading.

Their foot and undersides of the cerata (a), (which because they float upside down is effectively their dorsal surface), is blue or blue and white which helps to camouflage them from predation (sea birds) from above.

Their true dorsal surface (b), which faces down in the water, is silvery grey to effectively camouflage them from fish looking up from below.


He was associated with :
             - Porpita porpita in large quantities (more than one hundred counted from going from "Passe de l'ermitage" until the end of the hotel "Villa du lagon"
             - many  Physalia sp
             - and some "Violet snails" : Janthina janthina
